Parascending is a recreational aerial activity where you are lifted into the air while attached to a parachute-style canopy and towed by a boat or vehicle. The ascent, flight and descent are fully controlled by the operator, making it a structured and supervised experience rather than a form of free flight.
Despite the similar name, parascending is not the same as paragliding, paramotoring or parachuting, which involve independent control, wind reliance or unpowered flight. Parascending is typically offered as a holiday activity and is suitable for amateur participants.
ActivitySure can cover parascending when you are taking part abroad on an amateur basis and in line with the policy conditions. Because the activity involves height, towing speed and harness systems, suitable travel insurance remains important even when conditions are calm and the experience is professionally managed

Destination Insight
Parascending is commonly offered in coastal resort destinations with steady conditions and experienced operators. Popular locations include parts of Spain and Portugal, where the activity is widely available along established tourist coastlines.
It is also popular in destinations such as Bali, where travellers combine relaxed beach holidays with organised watersports and aerial experiences designed for first-time participants.
While parascending is designed to be controlled and accessible, risks can still arise. Changes in wind conditions, take-off or landing issues, or problems with harness equipment can result in injury. If medical treatment is needed abroad, or your trip is disrupted due to an unforeseen event, travel insurance can help protect you financially.
Not as standard, but you can add it for cover. Make sure you choose whether you’re parascending over land or over water, as each of these presents different risks.
Yes. Each of these are treated differently due to the risk they present. It’s really important to choose the right activity, as claims will only be considered for the one which is shown on your Policy Certificate.
Yes, the terms are often used interchangeably. On an ActivitySure policy, the important thing is that you specify whether the activity is taking place over water or over land, as that affects the cover you need.
Yes - if the correct parascending activity is shown on your policy, you can be covered for emergency medical expenses if you’re injured while taking part. You’ll need to follow the organiser’s safety instructions and use any required safety equipment.
Yes, parascending may be covered as part of an organised holiday excursion. You should take part through a suitable activity provider, follow their safety briefing, and make sure the equipment is used as instructed.
