Motor racing covers a broad range of organised driving activities that take place on closed circuits, controlled courses or designated off-road routes. This can include circuit racing, track-based competitions, rally driving and other structured motor sport events where speed, technical skill and vehicle control are central.
ActivitySure can cover motor racing, rallies and competitions when you are taking part abroad at an amateur level, provided the activity meets the policy conditions. This includes organised events, supervised participation and non-professional competition, rather than professional or commercial racing. Due to the nature of motor sport, having suitable travel insurance in place is an essential part of planning your trip.

Destination Insight
Motor racing is popular at well-known circuits across the world, including venues such as Silverstone in the UK, Monza in Italy and Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi. These locations host a wide range of amateur events, track days and driver experiences throughout the year.
Rally driving and off-road competitions are also popular in countries such as Spain, France and parts of Eastern Europe, where closed-road rallies and organised gravel or tarmac stages allow amateur drivers to take part under strict supervision and safety rules.
Many travellers combine motorsport participation with travel, attending organised events or training programmes that offer access to iconic tracks and rally routes.
Motor racing and rally driving involve high speeds, technical driving conditions and the potential for mechanical failure or collisions. Even in controlled environments, accidents can happen and may result in injury. If you are injured while taking part abroad, you may require emergency medical treatment, specialist care or repatriation. Appropriate travel insurance helps protect you financially if something goes wrong during your trip.
Although similar, races and rallies are structured differently. Races are often short, high-speed events which are timed or ranked, and the goal is to finish first. A rally is usually longer and more varied, focusing on navigation or endurance rather than speed.
Both of them are considered organised motorcycling events, so you’ll need to add them as an activity on your policy if you plan on taking part abroad.
No - professional racing and competitions are not covered under ActivitySure policies. If a participant is receiving any form of monetary reward or sponsorship, this would be considered professional and would fall outside cover.
If you’re taking part in a track day, you should add the activity ‘Motorcycling - Track Days or Events’.
These activities appear in different Activity Packs, meaning that the risk is assessed differently for each - the last thing you want is to pay a higher premium for an inappropriate level of cover.
It’s the type of activity you’re doing that matters, not how serious or competitive it feels on the day. Even if it’s just for fun, you’re still taking part in a motor race, rally, or amateur competition, and the risk needs to be covered.
