Under-17 driving experiences give young people the chance to learn basic driving skills in a controlled, off-road environment. Sessions are designed to introduce steering, braking, clutch control and general road awareness without the pressures of public roads, and are typically run on private land or purpose-built tracks under close supervision.
ActivitySure can cover under-17 driving experiences on an amateur, non-professional basis when taking part abroad, provided this does not take place on public roads. This applies to supervised learning sessions intended for education and confidence building, rather than competitive driving, performance events or unsupervised use of vehicles. Although these experiences are carefully managed, participants are still operating real vehicles, which means there is a level of physical risk involved.

Destination Insight
Under-17 driving experiences are most commonly found in countries with established off-road training facilities. In the UK, purpose-built driving centres offer structured sessions for young learners in safe, enclosed environments. Australia also provides similar experiences, often linked to wider driver education programmes and designed to teach car control before learners progress to public roads.
Even in controlled settings, driving involves moving vehicles and the potential for collisions or sudden stops. Minor accidents can still result in injury, shock or the need for medical assessment. If something goes wrong while you are abroad, medical treatment or repatriation may be required. Having appropriate travel insurance in place helps protect you financially if an incident occurs during your trip.
