Freestyle skiing focuses on performing tricks, jumps and technical manoeuvres on snow. It can include terrain park features such as rails, boxes and kickers, as well as mogul runs and aerial-style jumps. Unlike traditional alpine skiing, which centres on controlled descents down prepared pistes, freestyle skiing is built around creativity, balance and precision while airborne or on variable terrain. The use of purpose-built snow parks introduces structured features that are not found on standard runs.
ActivitySure can cover freestyle skiing when you are taking part on an amateur, non-professional basis during your trip abroad. This applies to recreational use of terrain parks and designated freestyle areas within recognised ski resorts. It does not extend to professional competition or extreme stunt performance. While freestyle skiing takes place within managed resort environments, the inclusion of jumps and features increases the likelihood of falls and impact injuries compared to standard piste skiing.

Destination Insight
Ski randonee is popular in alpine regions such as France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria, where extensive mountain terrain supports ski touring routes. Many skiers choose randonee as a quieter alternative to lift-served skiing, exploring designated touring paths or guided backcountry routes. It is also practised in parts of Scandinavia and North America where open mountain landscapes are accessible.
Ski randonee combines physical exertion with mountain travel in unmanaged areas. Ascents can be demanding, increasing fatigue, while descents may involve ungroomed snow and natural obstacles. Weather conditions can change quickly at higher altitudes, and assistance may not be immediately available. If you are injured while ski touring abroad, you may require mountain rescue, medical treatment or repatriation to the UK.
It can be. It’s treated differently to standard recreational skiing, so for cover to apply you’ll need to select it as an additional activity while going through the quote process. It’s not covered as standard, and is not included in the Winter Sports extension.
Not if you’ve added freestyle skiing to your policy. It often takes place in dedicated snow parks or terrain parks, which involve a higher level of risk than standard ski runs. By adding the activity to your policy, you have made the declaration of your participation, and will be covered in accordance.
Yes - freestyle skiing can include jumps, rails, boxes, half-pipes, and trick-based skiing. If these are part of what you're planning to do, it’s important to make sure your chosen activity reflects that.
Yes. When you add an activity to your policy, you’re covered for emergency medical expenses while taking part. You would be covered for injuries from participation, including falls or accidents. You must follow the organiser’s safety instructions and use any required safety equipment.
Remember, it is your responsibility to minimise the risk of any activity as much as you can.
Not as standard. You will need to add Sports Equipment Cover to your policy for this. It applies to both owned and hired equipment, and can protect against loss, damage, or theft, subject to limits and the Policy Wording.
