Ski jumping is a winter sport where participants ski down a specially constructed ramp before launching into the air and landing on a steep, snow-covered slope. It requires precise timing, balance and technique, and is typically carried out on purpose-built hills under controlled conditions. When taken part in while travelling, ski jumping is usually limited to structured, amateur participation rather than elite competition.
ActivitySure can cover ski jumping when you are taking part overseas at an amateur level, provided the activity meets the policy conditions. Due to the technical nature of the sport and the forces involved during take-off and landing, having appropriate travel insurance in place is important before taking part.

Destination Insight
Ski jumping has strong roots in countries with long-standing winter sports traditions. Norway is widely regarded as a centre of the sport, with numerous historic ski jumping hills and training facilities. Germany and Japan are also well known for ski jumping, hosting major events and maintaining purpose-built hills used for both training and amateur participation. While ski flying venues exist in locations such as Vikersund in Norway and Planica in Slovenia, these are specialist sites used exclusively for professional-level events.
Most travelling participants take part through organised training sessions or supervised experiences rather than competitive events.
Ski jumping involves launching from height and landing at speed, which increases the likelihood of injury if technique, conditions or timing are not right. Falls, hard landings or loss of control can result in serious injury, particularly in poor weather or variable snow conditions. If you are injured while ski jumping abroad, travel insurance helps protect you financially if you require medical treatment, hospital care or repatriation.
