Ski bobbing is a winter sport that blends skiing with a seated riding style. Instead of standing on two skis, you sit on a lightweight frame fitted with a ski at the front and rear, steering with handlebars as you move downhill. Some riders also use small foot skis to help with balance. Compared to traditional alpine skiing or snowboarding, the seated position changes how you turn and control your speed, but you are still travelling on open slopes alongside other skiers and snowboarders.
ActivitySure can cover ski bobbing when you are taking part on an amateur, non-professional basis during your trip abroad. This applies to recreational use within recognised ski resort boundaries. It does not extend to professional competition or specialist extreme terrain. While the format feels different, the environment is the same mountain setting, with varying snow conditions and shared pistes.

Destination Insight
Ski bobbing is most commonly found in European alpine resorts, particularly in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, where it has a longer tradition as an alternative winter sport. Some Austrian resorts in particular host informal ski bob gatherings and club events during the season. It is usually offered within established ski areas that already cater for alpine skiing and snowboarding, making it easy for visitors to try as part of a standard winter sports holiday. While less common outside central Europe, it can occasionally be found in other mountain destinations with well-developed resort infrastructure and prepared pistes.
Even though you are seated, ski bobbing still involves downhill movement at speed. Icy patches, uneven snow or busy slopes can increase the chance of falls or collisions. The riding position may alter how you land if you fall, which can lead to strains or impact injuries. If you are injured while ski bobbing abroad, you may need medical treatment, mountain assistance or repatriation to the UK.
