Power gliding involves flying a lightweight glider fitted with a small engine, allowing pilots to take off under power before soaring smoothly through the air. Unlike unpowered gliding, which relies entirely on winch launches or aerotow, power gliding provides greater flexibility and sustained flight. It is also distinct from powered paragliding or paramotoring, as power gliding takes place in a fixed-wing aircraft rather than using a fabric wing. When travelling abroad, power gliding is typically undertaken at an amateur level through flight schools or organised airfield activities.
ActivitySure can cover power gliding when you are taking part overseas on an amateur, non-professional basis and in line with the policy conditions. Although flights are generally well structured and supervised, aviation activities carry inherent risks, making suitable travel insurance an important consideration.

Destination Insight
Power gliding is popular in destinations with established aviation facilities and favourable flying conditions. Spain is well known for its reliable weather and wide airspace, making it a common choice for training and leisure flights. South Africa and the UK also attract power gliding enthusiasts, offering varied landscapes, regulated airfields and opportunities for longer scenic flights supported by experienced instructors..
Even in controlled airfield environments, risks can arise. Mechanical issues, changing weather conditions or turbulence can lead to unexpected incidents during flight or landing. If you require medical treatment while abroad, or need to return home sooner than planned, travel insurance can help provide financial protection.
