Peteca is a fast-paced Brazilian sport where players strike a shuttlecock-style object with the hand, aiming to keep rallies going across a court or informal playing area. It shares some surface similarities with volleyball or badminton, but peteca is played without rackets and relies on hand strikes, quick reflexes and coordinated movement. Games are typically informal, social and played at an amateur level, often outdoors.
ActivitySure can cover peteca when you are taking part abroad on an amateur, recreational basis and in line with the policy conditions. While peteca is generally low impact and accessible, the speed of play and repeated arm movement mean that injuries can still occur, particularly during longer or more competitive games.

Destination Insight
Peteca is most strongly associated with Brazil, where it is widely played on beaches, in parks and in community sports areas. Casual games often form spontaneously, especially in warm coastal regions where outdoor sport is part of everyday life.
Travellers visiting Brazil may encounter peteca as a cultural activity as well as a sport, with friendly games taking place year-round in relaxed, sociable settings.
Although peteca is not a contact sport, fast rallies and repeated striking motions can lead to sprains, strains or minor impact injuries. Uneven outdoor surfaces can also increase the risk of slips or falls. If you need medical treatment while abroad, or your trip is affected by an unexpected event, travel insurance can help provide financial protection.
