Model sports involve the use of scaled-down, remotely controlled vehicles such as cars, boats or aircraft for recreational or competitive purposes. Participants operate models using handheld transmitters, often on dedicated tracks, open fields or controlled water areas. Unlike full-size motorsports or aviation, model sports focus on small-scale replicas powered by electric, petrol or nitro engines. Even though the equipment is smaller, speeds can still be significant and mechanical components may cause injury if mishandled.
ActivitySure can cover model sports when you are taking part on an amateur, non-professional basis during your trip abroad. This applies to organised recreational sessions or club-level competitions, rather than professional events or commercial demonstrations. While model sports do not involve riding inside the vehicle or aircraft, there are still risks linked to moving parts, propellers, fuel handling and proximity to other participants.

Destination Insight
Model sports are practised worldwide, with clubs and events across Europe, North America and Australia. Dedicated model car circuits, flying fields and boating lakes are commonly used for organised sessions. Travellers may take part in overseas meets, hobby gatherings or informal club competitions while abroad.
High-speed models and rotating components can cause injury if control is lost or equipment fails. Trips and falls may also occur on uneven ground around tracks or flying areas. In some cases, incidents could involve other participants or spectators. If you are injured while taking part abroad, you may require medical treatment or repatriation to the UK.
