Luge is a high-speed winter activity where riders lie on their back on a small sled and travel feet-first down an ice track. It relies on balance, steering control and precise body positioning, and is best known for its inclusion in the Winter Olympics. Bobsleigh is a related sled-based activity that takes place on the same style of ice track but uses larger, enclosed sleds, often ridden by teams.
ActivitySure can cover both luge and bobsleigh when you are taking part abroad at an amateur level, including recreational runs and organised experiences, provided the activity meets the policy conditions.

Destination Insight
Luge and bobsleigh are most commonly found in alpine winter destinations such as Switzerland, Austria and Canada, where purpose-built ice tracks operate during the colder months.
Some resorts also offer supervised recreational rides, including passenger bobsleigh experiences at well-known venues such as St Moritz and Whistler. In certain locations, adapted summer versions may be available at alpine adventure parks using wheeled sled systems.
Both luge and bobsleigh involve high speeds, steep gradients and sharp corners. Even under supervision, there is a risk of impact injuries, particularly during braking or cornering. If an incident occurs while abroad, medical treatment or repatriation may be required, making appropriate travel insurance an important part of your trip.
Yes. Even if it’s a one-off experience at a resort, bobsleigh is considered a high risk activity. To be covered, you’ll need to choose it during the quote process.
You can - but you’ll need to make sure bobsleigh is included when you arrange your ActivitySure policy. It’s not covered under standard or Winter Sports options, so it needs to be selected specifically before you travel.
If you’re injured while taking part, your policy can include cover for emergency medical treatment and assistance abroad. Given the speeds involved, this can include transport to a medical facility if further care is needed.
You must make sure that all safety advice is followed, including wearing the correct gear and following all instructor guidelines.
It only applies to tourist experiences, and not in a professional capacity. This is regardless of whether you are riding a bobsleigh as a passenger, or in a more specially-designed vehicle.
