Jet skiing is a fast-paced watersport where you ride a personal watercraft across open water, often as part of a beach or lake activity session. It's usually offered through rental operators with set routes, rules and safety briefings. When taking part abroad, jet skiing is typically enjoyed on an amateur basis as a recreational activity rather than professional competition.
ActivitySure travel insurance can cover amateur jet skiing overseas, provided participation meets the policy conditions. Because jet skis combine speed with changing water conditions and other water users nearby, it's worth making sure you have suitable travel insurance in place before you head out.

Destination Insight
Jet skiing is popular in warm-weather destinations with calm bays and long coastlines. The Mediterranean, Thailand and the Caribbean are well known for offering jet ski hire in open water areas that are popular with holidaymakers.
It is also widely available in places such as Dubai and Australia's Gold Coast, where marina routes and coastal rides are common parts of adventure tourism. Many travellers book jet skiing as a short activity alongside other beach or water excursions.
Jet skiing involves speed, acceleration and sharp changes of direction, which increases the risk of falls and collisions. Injuries can range from sprains and bruising to more serious impact injuries. Medical treatment abroad can be costly, and an accident can disrupt your trip. Travel insurance helps provide financial protection if you need medical care or assistance.
Yes. Jet skiing is covered as standard on ActivitySure policies. This means that you will be covered for emergency medical assistance if you’re hurt or injured while taking part.
If you’re injured while jet skiing abroad, your policy can cover emergency medical assistance, medical treatment, hospital stays, and repatriation if necessary.
Yes - injuries from accidents, including crashes, can be covered, as long as you’re using the jet ski in a supervised setting and following all safety instructions.
Remember that your travel insurance applies to you, not the jet ski itself.
You would not be covered for the hire of the jet ski itself, but you are covered to ride a jet ski whether hired or otherwise. You may need separate insurance through the rental provider for damage to the jet ski.
As always, it is expected that you follow all safety advice and wear the appropriate equipment.
In most cases, you won’t need a licence if you’re using a jet ski as part of a supervised holiday activity. Usually, you will ride under the supervision of a licensed jet ski instructor.
If you’re hiring your own jet ski, or using a jet ski without supervision, you may need qualification or licence. It is your responsibility to research what is required, and you must always follow local laws. If you’re not legally allowed to ride, your travel insurance policy cover may not apply.
