Football, also known as soccer, is a fast-paced team sport that involves running, passing and competing for possession of the ball. It is played in a wide range of settings, from organised matches to structured training sessions, and is enjoyed worldwide at recreational level.
ActivitySure can cover football and soccer when you are playing abroad, including practice and training sessions as well as organised amateur matches. Because the sport involves physical movement, changes of direction and contact between players, its important to make sure your travel insurance includes football before you take part overseas.

Destination Insight
Football is played worldwide and forms a major part of sporting culture in many countries. It is particularly prominent in the UK, across Europe, South America and parts of Africa, where organised matches and training sessions are widely available. Travellers often take part through local clubs, community pitches or organised recreational leagues while abroad.
Some people join structured training sessions, while others take part in friendly matches arranged locally.
Football involves running, tackling and physical contact, which increases the risk of injuries such as sprains, strains or collisions. Even during training sessions, accidents can happen. Medical treatment abroad can be expensive, and injuries may affect the remainder of your trip. Travel insurance helps protect you financially if you need medical assistance or support while playing.
Football practice and training is covered as standard with ActivitySure. You only need to add it if you’re playing an organised amateur match. It’s treated differently due to tackles, match pace, and contact making injury more likely.
As long as your policy matches what you’re doing, you can be covered for emergency medical treatment if you’re injured while playing football. It’s important that you wear any protective gear while training or playing, and must follow any safety instructions given by the organiser, coach, or event provider.
If it is an organised match, even a friendly, you should add amateur match cover to your policy.
You can take part in an amateur football tournament if it’s been added to your policy. Professional football, paid participation, or playing under professional terms is not covered.
