Flyboarding is a watersport that uses a water-powered board connected to a personal watercraft to lift riders above the surface. The activity focuses on balance and controlled movement, and is usually offered as a supervised experience at beach resorts or marinas while travelling abroad. Participation must be at an amateur level only.

ActivitySure can cover flyboarding when you are taking part abroad, provided the activity meets the policy conditions. As the activity involves powered water equipment and changes in height, having suitable travel insurance in place before taking part is important.

Destination Insight

Where is popular to go flyboarding?

Flyboarding is commonly available in destinations with calm, warm coastal waters and established watersports centres. Locations such as Dubai, Thailand and Mexico are particularly popular, as resorts in these areas often offer supervised flyboarding sessions led by trained instructors. Many travellers try flyboarding as a short experience rather than a long-term activity.

Sessions are typically run in controlled areas away from busy boating zones.

Here's why flyboarding travel insurance matters:

Flyboarding involves water propulsion and aerial movement, which can increase the risk of falls, awkward landings or impact with the water. Even in calm conditions, loss of balance can lead to injury. Travel insurance helps protect you financially if you need medical treatment or support while taking part abroad.

Helpful travel tips

  • Wear all safety equipment provided, including a buoyancy aid and helmet where required.
  • Listen carefully to instructor guidance before and during the session.
  • Maintain controlled movements and avoid sudden shifts in balance.
  • Keep clear of boats, swimmers and other water users.
  • Take breaks if you begin to feel tired or lose concentration.
  • Always follow organiser instructions and adhere to safety recommendations throughout the activity.

Frequently asked questions

It’s not covered as standard. Flyboarding can be covered by ActivitySure, but it needs to be selected when you arrange your policy.

Provided you’ve added the activity to your policy, you can be covered for emergency medical expenses if you injure yourself while taking part. You must also follow all safety and instructor guidance. Without doing so, you may not be covered for any injuries or related expenses.

Yes. Once the activity is declared on your policy, you can go flyboarding as often as you like on your trip.

Yes, amateur participation may be covered if flyboarding has been declared and added to your policy. Professional competition is not covered, so an ActivitySure policy would not be suitable if you are being paid, sponsored as a professional, or competing under professional terms.
