Flag football is a non-contact version of American football where players stop the ball carrier by pulling a flag rather than making a tackle. It is often played socially or through organised leagues, and typically takes place on grass, artificial pitches or open recreational spaces while travelling abroad. Participation must be at an amateur level only.
ActivitySure can cover flag football when you are taking part abroad, provided the activity meets the policy conditions. Although the game is designed to be lower impact than full-contact American football, it still involves fast movement, changes of direction and close play, so having suitable travel insurance in place is important.

Destination Insight
Flag football has grown in popularity in a number of countries outside the USA, including the UK, Germany and Japan, where clubs and leagues run regular fixtures and social sessions. Travellers may also come across informal games in parks and on beaches in destinations worldwide, as the sport is easy to set up and can be played with minimal equipment.
Many people take part through organised leagues or social tournaments, while others join casual games while away.
Even without tackling, flag football can still lead to injuries such as sprains, strains or falls, particularly during quick turns, jumps or contested plays. Collisions can also happen in busy games, especially when players are moving at speed. Travel insurance helps protect you financially if you need medical treatment or support while taking part abroad.
